Veterans Disability Payment Dates 2026: The Full Monthly Schedule
The Veteran disability pension is paid near the end of every month, but never on a fixed calendar date — in 2026 the payment day moves between the 23rd and the 30th. The next payment lands Friday, November 27, 2026, and the last one of the year arrives early, on Wednesday, December 23, ahead of the holidays. Below is the full 2026 schedule from Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), how your monthly amount is set, and what to do if a payment does not arrive.
All 12 Veteran disability pension payment dates for 2026
| Month | 2026 payment date | Month | 2026 payment date |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | Friday, January 30 | July | Thursday, July 30 |
| February | Thursday, February 26 | August | Friday, August 28 |
| March | Monday, March 30 | September | Monday, September 28 |
| April | Wednesday, April 29 | October | Thursday, October 29 |
| May | Thursday, May 28 | November | Friday, November 27 |
| June | Monday, June 29 | December | Wednesday, December 23 |
Payments are issued on the dates listed, but they can take a few days to arrive, and posted cheques take longer than direct deposit. The Government of Canada’s guidance is to wait 5 to 10 business days after the listed date before contacting the program about a missing payment.
December is the month to plan for twice over: the payment comes early, on the 23rd, which is welcome before the holidays — but it also means the stretch to the January payment is the longest of the year. Our Canada benefit payment dates for 2026 calendar shows the veteran schedule alongside CPP, OAS and every other federal payment.
Why the date moves every month
Unlike the Canada Child Benefit (around the 20th) or the Ontario Trillium Benefit (the 10th), the Veteran disability pension follows a month-end pattern that shifts with weekends and holidays. When the natural payment day falls on a non-business day, VAC pays on the preceding business day instead — that is why February lands on the 26th and September on the 28th, and why December is pulled forward to the 23rd so the money arrives before Christmas and the year-end holidays.
The practical effect is an uneven budget rhythm. The gap from October 29 to November 27 is 29 days; November 27 to December 23 is only 26 days; and the December payment then has to stretch the furthest, into late January. If your rent or other fixed costs come out on the 1st, the December-to-January stretch is the one to hold a buffer for.
How your monthly amount is set
The disability pension is a tax-free, lifetime monthly benefit from Veterans Affairs Canada. It compensates for a diagnosed medical condition or disability that is related to your service. There is no single maximum amount, because the pension is set by a rate table, not a cap:
| What decides the amount | How it works |
|---|---|
| Assessed disability class | Your disability is assessed in a class system running from Class 1 (most severe) to Class 20. The class set for your condition determines your base monthly rate, using the rates effective January 1, 2026. |
| Dependants | If you have dependants — a spouse or common-law partner and/or children — your monthly amount is increased. |
| Annual indexation | Disability pension rates are adjusted each January in line with the Consumer Price Index, so the amount typically rises slightly at the start of a new year. |
| Tax treatment | The pension is tax-free. You do not report it as income, and it is not clawed back the way taxable pension income can be. |
Because amounts are personal — your class, your dependants, your rate year — the exact figure for your own pension is the one shown in your VAC account and payment statements, not any example online. Veterans can review their payment information through My VAC Account, or contact Veterans Affairs Canada at 1-866-522-2122.
The veteran schedule is close to, but not the same as, the retirement pension calendar: CPP and OAS pay on their own shared dates (November 26 and December 22 in the last two months of 2026 — see the CPP payment dates and OAS payment dates), so a veteran who receives both a disability pension and CPP or OAS will see two separate deposits, a day or more apart, each month.
Who receives the Veteran disability pension?
The pension is for Canadian Armed Forces veterans — and, in defined cases, survivors and dependants — whose disability is connected to their service. Eligibility turns on two things: a diagnosed medical condition, and a demonstrated link between that condition and service. VAC assesses the condition, assigns the class, and pays the corresponding monthly rate for life.
Newer applicants may instead encounter VAC’s Pain and Suffering Compensation, the successor benefit for many service-related disabilities, which offers a choice between a monthly payment and a lump sum. It follows the same monthly payment calendar shown above. Whichever benefit you receive, the deposit date is the one on this schedule — the program name on your statement does not change the day the money is issued.
What to do next — a short checklist
Set up direct deposit. It is the fastest and most reliable route; cheques add mailing time on top of an already moving date.
Mark the two remaining 2026 dates. Friday, November 27 and Wednesday, December 23. Then note that January’s payment will come at the very end of the month, making the post-Christmas stretch the longest gap of the year.
Check My VAC Account before calling. It shows your payment amount and status. If the date has passed and nothing has arrived, wait the recommended 5 to 10 business days, then call VAC at 1-866-522-2122.
Keep your information current. A changed bank account or address is the most common cause of a “missing” payment that was, in fact, issued on time.
Common mistakes
Expecting the payment on the same date every month. There is no fixed date — budgeting as if it lands on the 30th will leave you short in months like February and September.
Treating the early December payment as a bonus. December 23 is the regular monthly pension, paid early. The next one is a full month-end away.
Assuming a late deposit means a stopped pension. Banks post at different times of day and cheques take longer. Check the calendar date and your VAC account first.
Frequently asked questions
When is the next Veteran disability pension payment?
Friday, November 27, 2026. The final payment of 2026 follows on Wednesday, December 23, 2026, paid early ahead of the holidays.
Why is the December veteran payment on the 23rd?
VAC advances the December payment so it arrives before Christmas and the year-end holidays, rather than at the very end of the month like most other payments in the schedule.
How much is the Veteran disability pension per month?
It depends on your assessed disability class — Class 1 (most severe) through Class 20 — and whether you have dependants, which increase the amount. Rates are set in VAC’s tables effective January 1, 2026 and indexed each January. Your own amount is shown in My VAC Account.
Is the Veteran disability pension taxable?
No. It is a tax-free benefit. You do not report it as income on your tax return.
What if my payment does not arrive on the scheduled date?
Wait 5 to 10 business days after the listed date before contacting VAC, as deposits and especially mailed cheques can take a few days. You can check your payment status in My VAC Account or call Veterans Affairs Canada at 1-866-522-2122.
Is the Veteran disability pension paid for life?
Yes. The disability pension is a lifetime monthly benefit once granted, with rates adjusted annually for inflation.
The bottom line
Two veteran disability payments remain in 2026 — November 27 and an early December 23. The amounts are personal, set by your disability class and dependants and paid tax-free for life; the dates are the part you can plan around, and the December-to-January stretch is the one worth budgeting for now.
